SMP Negeri 1 Surabaya is the most favourite junior high school in East Java. There are 29 classes

including the acceleration classes. Every two weeks, on Monday, we have flag rising ceremony.

We have some extra curricular activities such as drum-band, scouts , modern dance, traditional dance,

yosakoi (a Japanese dance), karawitan (traditional music instruments), journalist, robotic, etc. We also have an Eco Team.

 

Our motto is quite long, but the point is 

NO DAY WITHOUT ACHIEVEMENT,

NO ACHIEVEMENT WITHOUT HARD WORK AND PRAY.

By the way, drum-band is the icon of SMP Negeri 1 Surabaya. It has been famous for many years.

 

We have two greenhouses, 5 toilets and a basketball court, 1 science laboratory, 3 ICT rooms, and a canteen. There are so many kinds of food in the canteen. It is all very delicious. You must try some of them, I recommend soto and gado-gado.

            SMP N 1 Surabaya is located in the middle of Surabaya city, to be exact is on Jl. Pacar no. 4-6 Surabaya.  This school was the 1st government school built in Surabaya.  SMP N 1 Surabaya has also an acronym SPENSABAYA. This school was built on 1st September 1951. Before school, this area was military station for marine, from 1940 to 1950.

 

 

When it’s still an International Standard of Junior High school, SMP N 1 students must be selected by several tests in subjects, but now when International Standard (RSBI) has been deleted (2013), this school has Academic Potency Test (TPA) , that’s such IQ test for their students to be selected to study here, now it’s not RSBI standard anymore but it’s one of District Schools (Sekolah Kawasan).

There are so many extracurriculars in SMP N 1 Surabaya : Robotic, Journalist,Qur’an Reading, Basketball, Drum Band, Football (Soccer), Red Cross Team (PMR), Yosakoi (Japanese Traditional Dance), Remo and Other Cultural Dances from Indonesia, POP Group, Choir, Karawitan (Traditional Indonesian Music Instrument), Band,  Cheerleader , Modern Dance, Scouts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here, I promised you that I will explain what OSIS (Intra-School Organization) is. Well, every government school has its own leading team (OSIS) which leads and manages everything (which isn’t managed by School of course) in school with permission of the headmaster itself. And every member of the school leading team has to be responsible, respectful, kind, friendly, fully leadership, smart, and every good thing, because leading team would be the prototype of SPENSA’s students. Therefore all those members (in SMPN 1 , tere are 45 members) have to be tested by Potencial and Personality test, to make sure OSIS members are the best of the best students. OSIS is the only organization that’s allowed in the school, so that why OSIS could manage and make program for all the students in SMPN 1.
